Admissions: During
championship and invitational meets one person is needed to collect
admission money at the door.
Announcer: One person
announces the start of warm-ups, the on deck meetings, the events, etc...
for the length of the meet
Clean up: Everyone is
required to help clean up the pool area and the hallway where concessions
are sold. This job does not take long if everyone pitches in to help.
Coaches Assistants: The
coaches may ask 1 or 2 parents to help with the swimmers on deck.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, passing out event
cards, keeping the relays together, checking in swimmers, writing events for
swimmers and keeping the kids together during a meet.
Concessions:
This job requires that you help set up the food tables before the meet, sell
the food during the meet and help clean up afterward. Usually 4 to 5 people
are needed for each dual meet or each session in a championship meet.
Courtesy Coordinator: One
person will be on the deck of the pool to provide relief as needed for
anyone working the meet. This person needs to know how to do most jobs so
they may step in anywhere. They will also be providing beverages to coaches
and those people who cannot leave the deck during the. This person may be
responsible for coordinating meals for the coaching and official staff at
large meets.
50/50 Raffle: One person
sells raffle tickets to those people watching the meet and to those working
at the meet. The proceeds are split between the person holding the winning
ticket and the swim team. This money may be earmarked for special events
with an announcement made as such at the beginning of each raffle sale.
Finish Judge: One person
stands at the side of the end of the pool and records the finish results by
lane.
Head Timer: One person
acts as the head timer to give directions and place timers as needed during
each meet. This person also acts as a backup timer during a meet in case a
timer misses the start of an event.
Merchandising: One person
will sell items such as caps, towels, goggles, shirts, etc… during home swim
meets.
Marshallers: Three to
four people line up the swimmers in the proper order according to their seed
position and time. They then place the swimmers in the appropriate heat and
lane. The marshallers also make sure the swimmers get to their respective
lane at the right time.
Officials: Two stroke and
turn judges are needed at each meet. One of these judges will also be the
starter. In the past we have had to go outside the team to fill these jobs.
We hope to have certified parents to fill these positions this year. This is
a great job to fulfill your volunteer requirement.
Recording: Two people
compile the results of each heat and event and make sure those results match
that of the computerized timing system. These results are then scored and
given to the ribbon writers.
Ribbon Writers: Two to
three people use the results of each event to write the ribbons that given
to each swimmer. The event number, length of swim, age, name, team, date of
the meet and the swimmer’s time in the event are recorded on the ribbon.
Runner: Two people will
pick up the cards with the recorded times from each lane as well as the
finish judge’s paper and take them to the recording table.
Timers: At least 12
people are required for each meet or session. The job involves working in
pairs to time each swimmer with a stopwatch in your lane during the meet.
The times are then recorded and picked up by a runner.
