Practice and attendance polices
As a general rule the least possible
interruption in the training schedule will produce the greatest success. The
club does encourage younger swimmers to participate in other activities in
addition to swimming. The expectation to attend practices increases as the
swimmer moves to higher levels within the team.
For each swimmer's protection
they should arrive at the pool NO EARLIER than 15 minutes before practice
and be picked up NO LATER than 15 minutes after practice ends. If a swimmer
arrives late or must leave early, parents should come into the pool to inform
the coach. This is to assure their safety. Swimmers should be ready to begin
practice 5 minutes prior to the start time. The coach plans for practice to
run the entire time. If practice starts late it will end late.
All swimmers should use the bathroom
before practice begins. If needed during practice, swimmers should use the
restroom before or after sets. Too many people getting out during a set causes
disruption for the rest of the swimmers in the pool.
The team has an obligation to
act as guests while in the pool area locker rooms. Every team member needs
to do everything possible to respect this privilege, as this is not only a
reflection of the individual but of the entire team. Damage to properties
at the pool sites may result in the swimmer being responsible for the cost
of replacement and repairs.
Before, during and after practice
swimmers are expected to behave appropriately in the locker rooms/pool area.
Inappropriate behavior will NOT be tolerated.
Swimmers are expected to show
respect to coaching staff at all times.
Parents may observe practice from
the bleachers. If smaller children are attending practice, please keep them
close and quiet at all times. Do not try to communicate with any swimmer during
practice. This can be very disruptive.
The coaches would like to encourage
parents to talk to them before or after practice. Talking to them during practice
takes time away from your child and others in the pool. Written correspondence
is appreciated and could request a phone call at home.
Whenever possible the coaches
should be informed of an illness or injury. A message can be left on the Cruiser
information line as well. If a coach notices that a swimmer has not been to
practice for a while, they may call to find out about the absence.
meet participation
At the beginning of the season
we ask that each swimmer turn in a commitment form listing each dual meet
and championship meet they are able to attend. From this list, the meet line-up
is established. If your child is not able to swim in a meet that he/she has
committed to, you must notify their coach 3 days prior to the meet. The line-up
must be changed and this takes some time.
Volunteering: The team strives
to provide a well-directed program for all its members. As part of our goal
and in order to foster unity and stability during the crucial years of a child’s
development, we encourage all parents to participate by helping with the team.
This may be the greatest contribution you can make to your swimmer’s progress.
Concessions: Families are asked
to provide individually wrapped, home-baked goods for the concession stand
during home meets. Drinks, hot dogs, nachos and other snack items are purchased
by the club and sold.
