governing body of amateur swimming chartered by Congress under the Amateur Sport
Act. DWSC offers a balanced program of practice, competition and social activities
for ten months a year. Instruction and training in swimming and swim racing
for boys and girls is closely supervised and highly structured. Swimmers participate
in competitions sanctioned by USS swimming according to age and ability. There
are no bench sitters. The swimming year is divided into two seasons: the Short
Course Season, when the swimmers generally train and race In a 25-yard pool;
and the Long Course Season, when the swimmers race in a 50-meter (Olympic-size)
pool. Just-for-fun social activities are scheduled throughout the year.
